The Grand Choral Synagogue

Building begin on the second largest synagogue in 1869 only after a permit was obtained from Tsar Alexander II. There were numerous restrictions on location, size and style of the building. Moorish style and Moorish and Byzantine ornamental was chosen by the architects and advisors. The main synagogue was consecrated in 1893.
